Welcome back to "Frankie Diving"! if you missed the first email explaining what this is, here is a link.
Today's Frankie Web Deep Cut is the project “May 5 to 12” from 2014 (10 years ago wow!). A couple friends and I decided to hold each other accountable to write a song every day for a week, and we uploaded them each day on a soundcloud/tumblr. It went on to become a yearly undertaking for some. The practice of “Song A Day” projects is something I have continued on my own and with various friends throughout the years.
I recommend doing a Song A Day (even for just a few days, but ideally 5-7) to anyone looking to unlock their songwriting abilities/push themselves/just practice writing! The only rule is that you just HAVE to make something every day. I find it helps shed some of the self-scrutinizing or feelings of an idea not being “good enough” to finish working on - you have to remove judgement from the process and just keep making songs!
I ended up releasing my first Song A Day endeavor on my bandcamp, as “quick songs”. I forgot until just now that this is where “sleep song” originated - which went on to be the second half of the song “Is It Possible / Sleep Song” from Next Thing, and is something we still play at almost every Frankie Cosmos show!
